Customer Highlight: Humboldt Neurohealth Therapeutic Services

14. August 2024

Meet Humboldt Neurohealth Therapeutic Services from Northern California!

This month, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on Humboldt Neurohealth Therapeutic Services, a valued customer for more than a decade, now boasting 17 neurofeedback providers! With their holistic approach to wellness, Humboldt Neurohealth has transformed the lives of many, empowering individuals and families through a combination of neurofeedback, individual therapy, and trauma-informed care.

One client shared their profound experience: "It's definitely worth it to try out Neurofeedback. [It] helped lower my overall stress response and prepared me to take on EMDR. I highly recommend this practice if you are seeking a trauma-informed clinician who demonstrates great empathy and overall understanding.”

Humboldt Neurohealth shares another powerful story that comes from a survivor of significant trauma. After years of dealing with severe flashbacks and sleep disturbances, "Neurofeedback has made a big difference in the overall quality of my life, mainly due to the significant reduction in my chronic [mental health] symptoms. After a neurofeedback session I feel more present, relaxed, and have a greater sense of well being. I am able to concentrate, where as before I could not."

The impact of neurofeedback extends beyond individual clients to their families: "My wife tells me that doing neurofeedback has saved our family. I don't react to situations anymore. I am more loving and compassionate." For many, it has also been a lifeline: "[I've] been going for a long time, and it's life-changing. They really helped and saved my family."

Group Leader:

Shari Johansson
RDH, MA, LPC, NCC, BCN, QEEG-D

Shari has been a therapist and LPC Supervisor for nearly 30 years, both in private practice and in the University setting. Always a student of science, Shari dove into neurofeedback in 2015 after seeing how this modality effectively resolved her son’s ADHD symptoms and her daughter’s temporal lobe seizures.

Only 2 weeks into her quest, she attended the ISNR conference in Denver and naively enrolled in a QEEG class. She met Jay Gunkelman at that conference as he was throwing a big bash to celebrate his birthday. With the fascination of neuroscience and meeting the larger-than-life personalities, Shari was thoroughly hooked. These years later, she still considers herself a novice that has only touched the tip of the monolithic iceberg of neuroscience and neurotherapy. She currently teaches didactic courses and is a certified mentor for both BCN and QEEG certification.

Neurofeedback and neuromodulation has been a game changer personally and professionally with her most challenging, treatment resistant clients. So, although the learning curve is steep with no plateau in sight, Shari is grateful to be on this path.

Alpha Theta Neurotherapy: Theory into Practice

Course description

From optimization practices using neuro-meditation to clinical practices in addictions and post traumatic stress disorder, alpha-theta neurotherapy has taken on many forms and found broad-based utility across a spectrum of practices. This course lays the foundation for the original research-based intervention, explores the underpinnings that gave rise to its success and provides clinicians with a practical skills approach to facilitation.

From this base, the course also explores how this therapy continues to evolve. Beyond the theoretical, the course aims to provide participants with hands-on, practical exercises to help them become confident in facilitating these experiences.

Essential teaching content

  1. Learners will describe the ways that alpha-theta neurotherapy benefits users when working with those seeking performance enhancement.
  2. Learners will describe Penniston’s general outcomes in working with individuals with addiction.
  3. Learners will name elements alpha-theta neurotherapy has in common with ancient mystic practices.
  4. Learners will identify the “ingredients” critical to the facilitation of alpha-theta neurotherapy.
  5. Learners will summarize (in no more than two sentences) one example of an ego-strengthening visualization that can be used in alpha-theta sessions.
  6. Learners will provide an example of a condition in which alpha-therapy is contra-indicated.
  7. Learners who complete this course will be ready to integrate Alpha Theta training into their practice.

After the course you can

At the end of this course, participants will feel confident beginning to implement Alpha Theta training with their patients

Course highlights

  • Grounding in foundational Alpha-Theta concepts
  • Opportunity to create your own positive affirmation
  • Alpha-Theta facilitation strategies

Currently, she is working towards her qEEG-D designation.

LuxNeuro

Laura talks about a few of her client's success stories.

"One patient with [mental health conditions] has had lifelong nightmares that were frequent and spanned a couple of decades. After treatment in low frequency, they now sleep well and are nightmare free.

Another hockey dad, was known to get upset and yell at his son's games. After just a few treatments, his nervous system regulated and he was happy and calm at the games.

Yet another patient, unearthed preverbal memories of abuse as well as dark subconscious thoughts during an alpha theta session. This information was processed and released which resulted in resolution of the past and unknown anxiety.

There are also countless patients who do not sleep well and now are able to calm, fall asleep and stay asleep at night. "

LuxNeuro, headquartered in Denver but serving nationwide. They are a clinic with incredible heart and warmth. Thier goal is to work with each individual, through combining neurofeedback and counseling, to allow each to access the person they know is inside and to move from surviving life to creating it. The transformations we witness can change the trajectory of one's life and creates a positive ripple in the world.
